I began exploring possible new career options in the Summer of 2017 when I learned about the notion of not separating my passion from my employment. I thought about the things I would do with my time if money were no object. Through a series of personal experiences and conversations, it became evident to me that I truly feel that my spirit is served when serving and supporting other women. Combining that with my love for babies and children, I eventually fell into the birth world.
I attended my first birth in January 2018 and my decision to move forward in this direction was solidified that night. I was taken aback by the physical and emotional endurance that I saw displayed by the new mama and I knew that I wanted to continue to be a part of teams that support women during one of our strongest and most vulnerable times. Since becoming a doula I feel like I am serving a greater purpose and it feels great to do so!
I received my training and certification from Ancient Song Doula Services and have partnered with For Your Birth and Birth Day Presence. I look forward to many more opportunities to support pregnant women through one of the most transformative experiences, that of labor and childbirth. In addition to supporting families during labor and birth, I also have a passion for postpartum support.
What is a Doula? “A doula is a professional trained in childbirth who provides emotional, physical, and educational support to a mother who is expecting, is experiencing labor, or has recently given birth. The doula’s purpose is to help women have a safe, memorable, and empowering birthing experience.” (Source)
Why choose a Doula? “Reduced use of pitocin, Decreased rate of interventions during labor, Less need for pain medication and less requests for epidural, Higher satisfaction with birth outcomes, Much lower c-section rate, Higher chance of a spontaneous vaginal birth, Shorter labors.” (Source)

Support during Labor & Delivery
“Laura Max controlled the energy of the room without saying a single word. Every time I needed something she was right there. She was strong, calm, and extremely helpful in every way. Without her things definitely wouldn’t have run as smoothly as they did. She went above and beyond and I was very satisfied. She totally put me first. She discussed birth plans and postpartum plans in prenatal visits and checked in and confirmed through text when we couldn’t meet. She wasn’t overbearing or pushy and overly opinionated. She suggested but more importantly listened. I am honored to have had her as my doula.”

“Thank you for being there for us! Our daughter has been such a blessing. The delivery process was a pleasant experience, partly because of you and not everyone can say that.”
