I began exploring possible new career options when I learned about the notion of not separating my passion from my employment. I thought about the things I would do with my time if money were no object. Through a series of personal experiences and conversations, it became evident to me that I truly feel that my spirit is served when serving and supporting other women. Combining that with my love for babies and children, I eventually fell into the birth world.
After attending my first birth, my decision to move forward in this direction was solidified. I was taken aback by the physical and emotional endurance that I saw displayed by the new mama and I knew that I wanted to continue to be a part of teams that support women during our strongest and most vulnerable time. Since becoming a doula I feel like I am serving a greater purpose and it feels great to do so!
I received my training and certification from Ancient Song Doula Services and have partnered with For Your Birth and Birth Day Presence. I look forward to many more opportunities to support pregnant women through one of the most transformative experiences, that of labor and childbirth. In addition to supporting families during labor and birth, I also have a passion for postpartum support.
What is a Doula? “A doula is a professional trained in childbirth who provides emotional, physical, and educational support to a mother who is expecting, is experiencing labor, or has recently given birth. The doula’s purpose is to help women have a safe, memorable, and empowering birthing experience.” (Source)
Why choose a Doula? “Reduced use of pitocin, Decreased rate of interventions during labor, Less need for pain medication and less requests for epidural, Higher satisfaction with birth outcomes, Much lower c-section rate, Higher chance of a spontaneous vaginal birth, shorter labors.” (Source)

Birth Client Testimonials
“You were knowledgeable and loving. The combination of your ability made me relax and feel confident during a challenging but exciting time.”
“You were extremely patient and nonjudgemental. You listened to whatever I needed to say and shared with me personal things in a way that made me feel less alone. I liked that I could text you anytime and your responses were helpful. It made me feel like we were going through the birth together, instead of me just being taken care of by someone else. I felt you were sincerely happy to be there. I enjoyed your quiet presence and that you gave me the feeling of not being alone. It felt more like having a friend than having someone I hired, which I hadn’t anticipated, and was very nice for me. The postpartum overnights were perfect. I remember feeling like you let me take the lead on what I needed and what my baby needed, but you also gave me a chance to get a real break and have someone I totally trusted take care of her at the time I needed rest the most. Thank you so much for everything!
“I liked the presence of someone with a very calm and positive personality that was able to explain things and be on my side for support. I liked to be coddled without asking what I needed at the moment because Laura was able to see me and understand me. I liked the support she gave to my husband as well, and that was very much needed for him too. I would not change anything about my experience.”
“Talking about labor plans, different delivery options and trying various exercises for labor pain helped my mental preparation for the birth. Laura is very caring, calming and attentive. Her presence at my birth made me feel supported.”
“Thank you for being there for us! Our daughter has been such a blessing. The delivery process was a pleasant experience, partly because of you and not everyone can say that.”
“Laura Max controlled the energy of the room without saying a single word. Every time I needed something she was right there. She was strong, calm, and extremely helpful in every way. Without her things definitely wouldn’t have run as smoothly as they did. She went above and beyond and I was very satisfied. She totally put me first. She discussed birth plans and postpartum plans in prenatal visits and checked in and confirmed through text when we couldn’t meet. She wasn’t overbearing or pushy and overly opinionated. She suggested but more importantly listened. I am honored to have had her as my doula.”
Postpartum Client Testimonials
“We liked the flexibility that Laura offered both in terms of the kind of help we needed and with scheduling. I was able to get tips and advice on breastfeeding, support with newborn bath and some much needed rest! I also liked that Laura was always responsive throughout the process and in general she’s a calm and soothing person – especially when you’re feeling anything but those things with a newborn! The overnight support was fantastic and really allowed us to get some sleep knowing that a trained and trusted individual who knows how to deal with newborns and babies was there taking care of our little bundle. My husband and I were also able to get some “our time” and step out of the apartment during the daytime support. Thank you Laura!”
“Laura was so willing to help with anything and always had such a calm demeanor when doing it. With twins, I was worried…about everything. After learning how to best care for them I realized I was worried about how others would care for them. I was so happy to see that Laura was not overwhelmed, even during the worst crying fits. She was easily able to assess the babies and what they needed making me feel more at ease.”
“As a second-time mom, your first day home by yourself with a toddler and a newborn can make you nervous, anxious, and even doubt your ability to be able to juggle it all. Laura was able to step in when I needed her the most and provide a second pair of hands while adjusting to our family. Laura additionally provided me with a home cooked meal and leftovers which trust me is the last thing you think about when trying to balance two little ones during your maternity leave. But most importantly she was a great sounding board to be able to discuss my insecurities of being able to be a mother to two beautiful children. Postpartum care is highly dismissed and not discussed amongst women and mothers but I believe it is very important whether you are a new mom or a mom of a growing family and Laura was instrumental in my growing journey as a mother.”
“Laura was amazing! Very knowledgeable and made me feel very comfortable opening up about my breastfeeding issues. She was able to provide me with solutions and options. As a new mom, this can all be overwhelming and I thank Laura for being patient, kind, and helpful to me! Thank you, Laura, for the support you provide to us moms when we need it the most!”
